A few things everyone needs to do when they visit this amazing state that I call home. When people think of Louisiana a lot of ideas probably come to mind; crawfish, bayous, hurricanes (the storms and the drinks), the French Quarters. I want this post to be a “heads up” on things you can do when you visit.
________________________________________________________ Alright, here is the list like i promised! Theses are my favorite things to do in Louisiana, at the moment, this year, this fall, in no particular order. You get the general idea... all the random stuff I love right now. Visit an Antebellum Home. Our wonderful state and much of the south is scattered with these remaining jewels. Take a walk down a oak tree covered path to take on the beauty that all the Old South has to offer.
Every year in the small town of Winnsboro La, where the love the community has for one another is anything but small; they hold the Catfish Festival. Come out to enjoy fresh fried catfish from Harring's, vintage car shows, homemade jams and jellies, live music, art exhibits, vendors, and so much more. Last year we had the pleasure of hosting Emmy Sunshine, a very talented little girl that can sing some blue grass. Every year I always get some crawfish jelly, fried fish, and a few items from Southern Farmer.
Watch a Saints football game at the New Orleans super dome.
Grab some buds and brew then start pinching tails and sucking heads! Cannot wait for crawfish season to fire up again! My favorite place for crawfish is in the backyard, with my uncle Paul Ray cooking some of the best mud bugs you will ever eat.
Float down the Bougachitto River.
Party it up on bourbon street.
The craziest, wildest, most entertaining show on dirt. Plus, tons of handmade goodies. That's what you'll find at the Angola Louisiana State Penitentiary Rodeo.
Go grab some oysters at Mohawk Tavern on Louisville Avenue in Monroe.
Ever wonder where all those crazy looking and amazing Mardi Gras floats come from? Well, there is only one place and that is Blaine Kern’s Mardi Gras World. Mardi Gras World is where you can learn about the rich history of Mardi Gras, see where and how the floats are made, and get a behind the scenes look into what it takes to create those amazing floats you see rolling down the street during Mardi Gras.
Go check out the hidden waterfalls at the WMA in Sicily Island, in Catahoula Parish. The hike down the canyon and up the stream are so worth it. Bring some buddies or your better half to picnic.
Overall there are TONS of great things to do when you visit our great state. Whether it is the visiting the more popular attractions, learning about our heritage and culture, or seeing all the amazing and beautiful places we love, Louisiana has much to offer as a great vacation spot. Most places in the state can be reached in a few hours and are well worth the visit.
So, plan your next vacation in Louisiana and come try our food, drinks, desserts, see the places we love, visit our attractions, and come be a part of our story.
I have now traveled a total of 6 hours in one day. I just arrived to my final destination at midnight! So glad to be in a nice fluffy bed....:especially when I get to snuggle with my wonderful guy.
We are staying down in south Louisiana for work at the moment. I love it here. It's one of my favorite places to be. There's so much to do. It's an added bonus he's here and my grandparents are staying not even twenty minutes away for work as well. But while he's gone to work I might as well do something productive!
